River Metals Recycling is Kentucky’s largest scrap metal recycler. We were the first SHARP (Safety & Health Achievement Recognition Program) certified recycling facility in Kentucky and continue to prioritize safety for our employees and our community. To protect our employees and equipment, we use water to manage temperatures, which generates steam. Our facility has an exemplary compliance record with federal, state and local regulators and is subject to frequent, unannounced audits from these oversight bodies.

Industrial recycling operations rely on force and heat to break down old products—at times creating intense pressures that can generate sounds. Certain items as they are processed generate more sound and heat than others—we have implemented new processes to reduce and avoid the instances of these peak operating sounds. We operate in a heavily industrialized area, and not all sounds you may hear come from RMR. For those that do, we can assure you that these sounds, even if startling, cannot damage properties. We have processes in place to minimize peak operating sounds from our location, including inspector training, material inspections, and supplier training. For suppliers who fail to meet our high standards for safety and environmental sustainability, we levy fines and suspend problem accounts. We also perform root cause analysis to further prevent and/or mitigate these events.

Given the density of industrial and transport activity in the Clifton Neighborhood, it is difficult to identify every smell originating from a single source.
